  Bored in the USA is a song written and performed by Father John Misty who is an American folk singer-songwriter. Misty’s position establishes ethos of this song, which is able to make this song more credible. This song is a lead song in his forthcoming album named I Love You, Honeybear. This song expresses Misty’s concerns based on the current political and economic context. Nowadays, America is facing a series of problems. The economy is slumping. The real income of middle-class American is decreasing. Meanwhile, the rate of poverty remains high and the gap between the rich and the poor is growing every year. The political institutions are declining. Democratic system is questioned. It is money but not the people that control the political system. 

The whole song is a satire, which criticizes a widespread American spiritual crisis. Misty says he is bored in the USA, which exactly describes the status of today’s middle-class Americans. Middle-class Americans have a job under such harsh environment, and they do not need to struggle for a job like the lower-class Americans, but they do not have any ambitions. Their inner soul is empty and their mind is dull. They are not willing to make efforts to change and be a better man, but they are willing to morbidly spend much money on materials which are not necessary.
