There are several weaknesses in this article. The biggest problem is the terrible structure. I think the structure of this article is a mess, which actually totally confuses me. I have spent a lot of time reading and summarizing it. Some reasons cause the unclear structure of this article. Firstly, we all know that Confucianism includes a lot of things and it is difficult to discuss each of them well in eighteen pages. Author tries to list all the things in Confucianism, but he obvious does not do it well. Besides, since author is aim to discuss Confucianism in this article, I consider author does not need to point out other philosophers’ arguments and ideas. When author is talking about that the rites or ritual indicate a patter of behavior that is the foundation of human virtue, author writes some paragraphs of Fingaretter and Lau’s ideas. I think it is not necessary, which is likely to confuse readers to understand and memorize the ideas of Confucian. It would be better to only emphasize the philosophy of Confucianism.
There are some strengths in this article. The biggest one is that author properly applies Confucianism to H. B. Fuller business case, which author connects philosophy with the real problem well. The applicability of Confucian morality can be illustrated clearly through an analysis of H. B. Fuller business case. In this part, author tells us what this case is at first. Then he points out the managerial issues of Fuller and how does them disobey the philosophy of Confucianism, which is not only setting poor example for their subordinates but also putting them in difficult moral circumstances. Also, author tells us the right and moral way to solve this business issue. Furthermore, companies should look long-term rather than short-term developments, consider the situation of others, and the impact of their behavior on others, and not just themselves. Through analyzing this real business case, readers could have a deep understanding of Confucianism and how to apply Confucianism on management. Confucianism could contribute to both a moral and a better-managed company.
